Odisha is manufacturing hub for all leading companies in steel, aluminum and metallurgy sectors, and over the years these industries have re-invested in the state in capacity enhancement. With manufacturing activities picking up pace and as finished goods get ready for exports, the state historically known for its minerals, bulk, break bulk and project cargo, is gradually maturing towards more containerized cargo.
The state generates lot of cargo, which moves as bulk and break bulk due to capacity constraints in handling of containerized cargo. In recent times market realized the benefits of containerized cargo movement. We foresee a spurt in containerized cargo both at the port and on the landside. The state being a major seafood exporter to the world also calls for capacity addition in reefer and cold chain infrastructure facilities.
New sectors like food processing and petrochemical are emerging with major investment coming from the likes of ITC and Indian Oil. A mega seafood processing park is also coming up in the state capital region. Some of the much anticipated projects like multi-modal logistics park and industrial park at Paradip are making the region industrially more vibrant. A number of upcoming big ticket projects like pellet plant by Triveni Group, chemical industries, timber processing zone, steel plant proposed by JSW indicate prospective times ahead.
