Hyderabad is ranked 3rd amongst top 20 cities in the world to become ‘Global Mega Hub’ by 2020. This is the only Indian city which figures in the top 10 large cities in the world considered as the ‘Most Sustainable Cities by 2020.’ Thus it is no surprise that industrial clusters are rapidly developing in and around Hyderabad in Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts. Major exports from the city include pharma and granite followed by engineering goods, electrical, chemicals, textiles, food and agriculture.
50 percent of India's bulk drug exports come from Hyderabad and this share is going to grow further with the establishment of the pharma City. Another major export category is granite that contributes around 20-30% to the city's exports.
Growing industrialisation will transform into a dramatic rise in flow of exim cargo, putting more pressure on logistics infrastructure. Demand for warehousing is set to double in the city by 2020.
To meet this demand Concor is planning to set up two logistics parks each at karimnagar and patancheru. Four dry ports are proposed in Zaheerabad, Bhongir, Jadcherla and Damarcharla. In addition, Telangana is serviced by JNPT, Krishnapatnam and Chennai Ports.
Not to stay behind, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport - the best cargo airport in the country has taken many initiatives including establishment of express terminal, free trade zone, dedicated pharma zone and now the airport is targeted towards transforming into ‘a logistics hub.’
But the need of the hour is not only to provide logistics but to make logistics ‘SMART.’ Smart logistics ensure efficient, precise and low-cost transportation. It will enable to control the increasing flow of goods more efficiently, ensure faster flow of goods through intelligent route planning, reduced logistics cost by optimum utilisation of existing infrastructure, reduces truck down times and prevents traffic congestion. Smart logistics will improve delivery reliability and simplify the supply chain management thus benefiting the exim community.
Thus, Maritime Gateway is just-in-time to announce the debut event themed “Smart Logistics Summit & Awards 2017 – Hyderabad.” Through thoughtful and constructive sessions and interactions, the summit aims to bring together logistics service providers, users (business community) and the government to deliberate on the existing challenges and explore opportunities to make logistics smart. The awards will showcase outstanding achievements and exceptional accomplishments of individuals and organizations in the logistics sector.
